Seven games and counting. The end of the regular season is just weeks away. With a win in St. John’s on Friday night, the Marlies are poised for a decent end-of-season ranking – but they’re not out of the woods yet. Not a single Western Conference team has yet to clinch a playoff spot, Marlies included, so their focus is on another win Saturday against the IceCaps. Here are six things to roll around in your mind ahead of puck drop:

  • I’m not the greatest mathematician, but I believe the Marlies magic number is two-and-a-half. A 92 point season, five more than they have now, should put them in the clear for a playoff position
  • While the Toronto team looks to put as much distance as possible with teams below them, they are also in the hunt to usurp Texas’ top spot. With the Stars loss on Friday, the Marlies are only two points out of first in the West
  • Greg Scott scored the overtime winner on Friday – his third game winning goal since January 1st, tying him with Joe Colborne for most on the Marlies since the new year
  • Ryan Lasch’s goal on Friday is his first since joining the Marlies
  • St. John’s loss to the Marlies snapped a four game winning streak
  • Tune into Saturday’s game against the IceCaps starting at 6pm EST on Rogers TV in Toronto (yepp, the away game is being broadcasted) and AHL Live
